Baroque
what is it?

Baroque is a style in art.
It was between the styles (or epochs) of Renaissance and Classicism.
At that time, there were absolutist monarchs in Europe.
An Absolute monarchy is a form of monarchy where one person, usually called a monarch holds absolute power.

The word Baroque comes from Portuguese.
There, Baroque means something like strange. In Portuguese, it was first used for irregularly-shaped pearls.
It was first used in France to mean works of art that did not follow the current trend.
Baroque was a Western cultural era,
which began near the turn of the 17th century in Rome. It was exemplified by drama and grandeur in sculpture, painting, literature, dance, and music. In music, the term 'Baroque' applies to the final period of dominance of imitative counterpoint, where different voices and instruments echo each other but at different pitches, sometimes inverting the echo, and even reversing thematic material.

Baroque art is usually very playful and has many ornaments.

The Baroque era was a milestone where scientific knowledge grew through observation.
Many world-renowned scientists greatly influenced the subject matter and intensity that many artworks displayed, such as Galileo Galilei, Sir Issac Newton, Copernicus and Anton von Leeuwenhoek.
