King - Troubadour

Music was extremely important to the people who lived during the Medieval era, especially in the royal courts of the Middle Ages. This was age of the Knights whose ladies were revered and it became an important part of courtly love. It was important for a knight not only to be able fight but also to be able to play the musical instruments of the Middle Ages and to dance.
One of the medieval troubadours  was Richard I,the king of England ,also known as
Richard the Lionheart, who reigned from 1189–1199.  He composed the canzona (one of th main genres of troubadours' poetry, type of the song) when he was captured by the Duke of Austria Leopold. His song was about lack of support. At that time only vocal part of music could be written down, the instrumental accompaniment was improvisational and would not have been recorded.
